Since today is Valentine's Day, I thought I would dig deeper into the age old question, "What is the true definition of love?" When most people think of the word love, they think about the romantic side of the word. Is that the only meaning of love though or is there more to it? In my opinion, There are many ways that we can show love without being all lovey dovey with each other. Love can be shown in even the most simple of actions or in the small moments.
On one side, having the romantic moments are important for couples to thrive and last. Ladies like dressing up and getting flowers from their man. Men love showing off their beautiful woman on their arm in a public place like a restaurant or theatre. All of the thoughtful gifts that couples give to each other is also very sweet. I always love going to wedding showers and weddings because they celebrate the unity of two people becoming one because they love each other. Romance is always a fun way to tell someone you love them but it's not the only way to accomplish that task either.
On the other side, love is shown through actions instead of words. For example, my Dad will put gas in my Mom's car if he takes it out and realizes that she's running low so that she won't have to worry about it the next time she's in the car. My Mom shows my Dad love by staying with him in the hospital because she cares for his well being when she doesn't have to. My sister Hannah, along with alot of my extended family members, cook for us and that's how they show their love. Food is their love language as we like to say!
I remember when I was in middle school and I had my rods put into my back up in Nashville, Tennessee. We had some family friends that lived up there that took care of us the whole fifty-six days that we were there. Their names were Parry and Tammy Adams along with their son Philip Adams. Mrs. Tammy would bring us homemade food and she would stay with me when my mom had to come back home because my dad had suffered a massive heartattack. Philip was in college at the time so he was working at Dunkin Donouts during the summer and so he would bring me free doughnuts while playing checkers with me to entertain me. The Adams family also gave some of our family members a place to stay at their condo when they didn't have to. Unfortunally, Mrs. Tammy passed away last month after a twelve year battle with cancer but she never stopped showing love until the end. I want to dedicate this blog post to her as a little repayment for everything she and her family did for us and all of the love the showed us during a hard time in our lives!
On this day celebrating love, hug the people closest to you tight and don't let the opportunity pass to let them know what they mean to you. You never know when you won't be able to show that person how much you love them one day! I hope everyone gets a lot of chocolate and cards surrounded by loved ones. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!
