The importance of a good self esteem

When I was a teenager, one of the worst problems that I saw in young girls was a low self esteem. I always observed that these girls were always pretty but they never to seem to see their worth. That was always the saddest part for me. Some girls would starve themselves in oder to look like those skinny models in the magazines that they read.
My mother would always tell me and my sister that we were daughters of the king and that we were beautiful because we were made in his image. Because of the lesson that my mother taught us, Hannah and I always had confidence in ourselves and it showed. There were several teachers of ours that would ask my mom why Hannah and I actually had confidence in ourselves when there were so many other girls that didn't see that they were beautiful as well. My mom would always tell my teachers what she told us and then they would understand that we knew that we were worth so much in our creator's eyes.
Some people have asked me, "if you were made so in God's image, why do you have a disability?" I always respond to that question by simply stating that beauty comes in every shape and size and God uses my disability to inspire and encourage people for his glory. Beauty also comes from within, if you're pretty on the outside but ugly on the inside, then it doesn't matter about your looks because all people will end up seeing is what is inside of you.
For those of you who are struggling with yourself worth right now, I want to remind all of you whose child you really are and in his eyes, you are beautiful. God does not make mistakes so don't let anyone or anything tell you otherwise.
I have heard you can smell the Hershey's plant from a long way off! This blog is so clear about the sweet and bittersweet slices of life that we travel through. How interesting that you put them together to see the whole picture.
