Every year on the 4th of July, my family and I grill out hamburgers and hotdogs for dinner. Then my dad makes the best homemade vanilla ice cream. Finally once it gets dark outside, my family and I will go out on the edge of our driveway and watch our neighbors fireworks go off. 4th of July always has been one of my favorite holidys but it wasn't until I was old enough to understand why we celebrate this holiday, that I truly appreciated this holiday.

On July 4th, 1776, our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence and it was then when the United States finally had their freedom from England. I can't even begin to understand the importance of that day in our nation's history. When I look at all these other foreign countries, I realize that Americans have more rights then a lot of other people in our world. For instance, we can have religious rights and we can vote who we want into office.

As you and your families enjoy the holiday this weekend, remember to think about the true reasons that we're able to even be able to celebrate in the first place.
